The fact that Darkest Hour: A Heart of Iron Game is a strategy war piece makes cheats, hacks, and console commands so important. Your war machine needs resources to keep running. These are not easy to come by when playing the game with everything getting in the way.
The Darkest Hour Team cut us some leeway by leaving console commands list to help us edit the game in a rather limited way.
To launch your console and enter console commands, you just have to press F12 while in the game and start typing your console commands. Press enter after typing the command. To deactivate a console command, hit F12 again, type the console command and then push enter to deactivate the console command. Run rar on mac.

When I wanted to get a multiplayer group to do Darkest Hour I have been craving to do a long game that will of course not be completed in a few sittings but something that we could take a break from if need be and come back to. A game that will instead of creating the same results as the vanilla would have and enhanced the vanilla game. That is why I am a huge proponent for 'The Grand Campaign 1914-1991.'

The mod extends the game by combining two major mods. Arms, Armistice, and Revolutions (AAR) by Burning and Limith, which according to its creators, “links the 1914-Scenario to the classical 1936 grand campaign, thereby offering half a century of pure political, economical and social turmoil to play. It takes care of guiding the major powers of WW2 so they can then pursue their individual, (a)historical paths in a new, great War,” and the New World Order 2 (NWO) by Bizon, which to quote the blogger of 'Code of War,' “is a mod which task is to provide compelling reason to keep playing Darkest Hour after 1945 at least until planned end of timeline in 1964. (…) The task of the mod, once again, is to recreate all the plausible venues in which the World War 2 could have ended, and experience the darkest hours of the Cold War era.” In other words this mod gives the player a wide range of events that can continue on their path of history or to alter the course of history by events, extended tech tree, and so forth all the way to the end of the historical Cold War which will create a very entertaining game.
For instance reading a few reviews of the mod a lot of people had the Axis winning the war (including myself) where France was crushed early. Some times Russia would stay Imperial and others Russia would turn Communist. In some cases the Communists would not sign an armistice and continue the war. One review I read was of a man who played as Italy and did not go to the Entente. They stayed with the Axis and the war just came to an end with no definitive victor. Austria-Hungary was still a thing. Communists never came into power in Russia and Bulgaria was conquered by the Ottomans. I myself have been playing with China and its multiple factions. I first avoided any invasion by Japan by becoming friends with them and joining the Axis. Another I played as the Yunnan Clique where I never seemed to get the same events each time I played them. Another as Bulgaria where I joined the war late when I saw France surrender in 1916, America never joined the war, Austria Hungary never fell, I and pushed my way through Albania, Rumania, and parts of Serbia. Only to watch the German Empire to start a war with USSR in 1919 and be stuck in a stale mate till I quit in 1937 in Siberia for 12 years and what I assume would continue on running.

The chance of multiple outcomes both fictional and non-fictional continuing into the Cold War where we can or cannot witness the Korean, Vietnam, Russian-Afghan, or even the Iraq-Iran War. Believe it would be a fun experience to at least get a group to come together an play for at least a few hours each week at a scheduled time or just free ball it like we tend to do now.
